After an Air Force career and then four years with Johns Hopkins University, I transitioned in September 2010 to the Charles Stark Draper Laboratory (associated with MIT) in Cambridge, MA, where I manage a portfolio of programs and initiatives to develop new spacecraft concepts, technologies, and systems.  I arrived in Boston the really old-fashioned way – by sailboat – with Jen as crew – and have been enjoying every minute of my new work and life in Boston.

Karen:

Karen retired from the Air Force in 2008, and is working for a government consulting firm in Northern Virginia.  With both Jennifer and James grown, Karen and I have been moving in different directions.   We both treasure the good family years behind us and look forward to many good years ahead as we stay connected as friends.

Living in the wilds of East Africa

Jennifer graduated from Virginia Military Institute last year with a BS in Biology.  She was captain of the women’s NCAA rifle team, managing editor of the college literary magazine, and on stage in several plays.  Jennifer decided not to go into the military (about half the VMI cadets don't).  Instead, she joined the Peace Corps!  Now 22, Jen is teaching high school chemistry and biology in a village in Mozambique -- in Portuguese, which she learned upon arriving there last September.  She has made many new friends, and has many daily adventures -- for example, when you want a chicken dinner, it means killing a chicken.  She and her new puppy (Toby) sleep under mosquito netting, which keeps out both the mosquitoes and the bats that live under her roof.  She has come across wild hippos while walking between villages (all we have here is squirrels).  Jen’s experience teaching in the Peace Corps is full of discoveries and a richness that will be memorable for both her and her students.

Just moved to Washington State, address tbd

James turned 21 in April, and graduated from VA Tech three weeks later with a double major in Computer Science and Philosophy (he was advised that to do artificial intelligence programming, one needs to know how people think as well as how to program). Double major in 3 years -- he was hired by Microsoft and just moved to Washington State in early June to start his new life there.  Now’s a good time to buy Microsoft stock.  :)

Neither Jen nor James has indicated intentions toward marriage any time soon, although Jen reports getting several proposals in Mozambique.

We have enjoyed reading the website inputs posted so far and it is nice to catch up with everyone’s news.  Thank you to those who have spent the time to make the reunion possible -- looking forward to seeing everyone soon.

Pete, Jennifer, James, and Karen
