Miles and Nicole Cook live in Atlanta, Georgia, with their three children, Brian (16), Sarah (14), and Jayne (12); two dogs, Sunshine (9), and Moonshine (8); one cat, Buddy (4); two hamsters, and one parakeet – so it’s a busy place! We try to get up to Wellfleet every summer to stay with Miles’s parents, Reuben and Nancy. We are really looking forward to the Gilliatt reunion.
Miles is a director with Bain & Company. He helped open the Atlanta office in 1996, and became the office’s Managing Director last year in the summer. Two years ago, Miles got his private pilot’s license, and his favorite activity is flying the rest of the family around for weekend trips. At the moment, he’s working toward his commercial rating. Most recently, he flew the family up to UVA for his 25th class reunion.

Nicole is a recovering attorney, and full-time mom. In a nod to her past career, she’s been coaching Brian’s high school mock trial team, and she also coordinates the parent volunteers for Sarah’s theater productions (see below). Jayne has decided to join the cross country and track teams, and Nicole plans to go happily watch the races, but she won’t be volunteering, as she has “absolutely no skills whatsoever” to contribute in the running department, and, in fact, avoids running whenever possible.
Brian is entering 11th grade, and so is gearing up for a heavy school year. He just got back from a house building trip to Nicaragua. Later this summer, he’ll be going France and then on to Greece with some French friends. In exchange for his parents’ permission to do this, he’s promised to speak only French – we’ll see if he succeeds. Brian spent much of 10th grade working toward his own private pilot’s license. He made his first solo flight last month, which means that he got permission to fly alone before he got permission to drive alone. In fact, his driver’s test is set for this Thursday, so hopefully he’ll have that license in hand at the reunion.
Sarah is entering 9th grade. She enjoys a wide variety of things, but her first love is acting. She is excited to be starting high school, because she’ll be able to be in two school productions a year, rather than just the one middle school production. This spring, she was a harem dancer in “Aladdin.” In the fall, the Upper School is putting on “The Lord of the Flies,” and Sarah is looking forward to playing a posh-boarding-school-student-turned-evil-hunter. In the meantime, she’s looking forward to visiting her grandparents on the Cape.
Jayne is going into 7th grade. As noted above, she’s planning on joining the cross country and track teams at school, because she kept winning all her races in PE this past spring. Jayne is a talented artist, writer, and mathematician. She spends a lot of time reading, and hanging out with friends. She also designs beautiful houses on SIMs, and now has a whole following of people who download copies of her houses whenever she posts them on the internet. When Jayne grows up, she wants to be a chef, which pleases the rest us, because we all love to eat, but not especially to cook.
